(Yicai Global) March 16 -- China's ministry of industry and technology and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will work together to apply 5G mobile networks technology in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the ministry said today.

The ministry organized a special meeting yesterday to discuss the next step with the technical department of the Olympic Winter Games Organizing Committee. Participants exchanged views on the development of winter sports equipment industry, application of electronic information and 5G technologies in the Olympic Winter Games, as well as construction and application of information, communications and radio facilities in Olympic venues.

China should seize historic opportunities to be offered by the Beijing Winter Olympic Games to promote fast development of related industries such as winter sports equipment and information and communications technologies, the participants suggested. It is necessary to highlight the leading role of 5G applications and incorporate technology elements into the Olympic Games, they emphasized.

Beijing will host the 2022 Winter Olympics in February of the same year after it has made a successful bid to beat rival cities. China's capital has planned three games zones: Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. The Beijing zone will provide the venues for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the ice sports competitions, the International Olympic Committee said.
