(Yicai Global) Nov. 3 -- Chinese tech giant Lenovo Group’s quarterly revenue topped CNY100 billion (USD15 billion) for the first time ever in the three months ended Sept. 30 largely due to surging growth in the use of personal computers amid Covid-19.

Beijing-based Lenovo logged operating revenue of CNY100.5 billion in the second quarter of its fiscal year 2020-2021, a gain of 7.4 percent from the same period last year. Its PC and smart device business accounted for CNY79.3 billion of this, up 7.6 percent from the year before and an all-time high.

Profit rocketed 53.4 percent to CNY2.2 billion (USD329 million) while its profit margin expanded to 6.3 percent, the biggest ever.

Lenovo is the world’s largest PC company with a 23.6 percent market share. It unveiled several new models this quarter, including the world’s first foldable screen laptop the ThinkPad X1 Fold, which weighs only 900 grams, and the Yoga 5G, the first laptop with fifth-generation network capabilities.

The firm’s venture capital arm Lenovo Capital earned USD100 million from its investments in the second fiscal quarter. Nine companies it backs, including Nanjing Xinchi Semiconductor Technology, MileBot Robotics and Shenzhen Feima Robotics, secured new rounds of financing while another of its picks, Cambricon Technologies, listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s Nasdaq-like Star Market.
