(Yicai) Sept. 27 -- With the tourism demand rising for the upcoming Golden Week holiday, China has launched activities to promote consumption in the automobile, home appliances, food and beverage, tourism, and retail industries.

Shanghai is holding a tourism festival between Sept. 16 and Oct. 6, with 70 cultural and tourism organizations offering half-price tickets and nearly 50,000 consumer coupons in the city’s central Jing’an district.

China needs to ensure the effect of previously issued policies to boost consumption in the home furnishing, automobile, and electronic product fields and promote the introduction of policies to support the development of the automotive aftermarket, He Yadong, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, said recently.

Sichuan province will issue a second round of consumer coupons during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday that runs between Sept. 29 and Oct. 6 to help residents save money in key fields, such as retail catering, household appliances, sports and health, traveling, and refueling.

Heilongjiang province plans to issue more than CNY50 million (USD6.8 million) of consumer coupons, mainly for purchasing automobiles, home appliances, general merchandise, clothes, and catering services.

Beijing launched the Beijing Under the Moonlight activity, which lists a series of night tour guides, to boost the night-time economy.

Over 100 million people are expected to travel each day of the Golden Week holiday, far exceeding the figures in the same period of last year and 2019, according to the data from the China Tourism Academy.

Some 190 million passengers will likely travel by railway between Sept. 27 and Oct. 8, according to official estimates. Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has predicted that more than 21 million passengers will travel by air in the period.
