(Yicai Global) Sept. 11 -- The distributed energy storage demonstration built by GCL Intelligent Energy Co. [HKG:0451] and Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology Co. [SHA:600522], China's largest commercial lithium-ion energy storage project, is officially in operation.
The storage system comprises a hundred and fifty thousand 20-amp-hour lithium-ion batteries in a series-parallel connection. It has an installed capacity of 10 megawatt-hours and can run 3,600 charge cycles. The system features a high charge and discharge rate, fast response and a long cycle life, the Securities Times reported on Sept. 11, citing Fei Zhi, president of GCL Intelligent Energy.
The project has also been run autonomously and will be incorporated into GCL Intelligent Energy's online cloud platform to be managed through advanced control equipment. The platform can monitor the project in real-time through mobile phone apps, web pages and other means.
During its lifetime, the system can push a cumulative 28.8 million kilowatt-hours into the power grid, easing the strain on the power network during the summer peak.
GCL Intelligent Energy is a subsidiary of Golden Concord Holdings Ltd. and is mostly engaged in energy-saving lighting, central air conditioning and distributed energy projects. Zhongtian Technology is mainly involved in optical fiber and power transmission.
