(Yicai Global) Dec. 12 -- The Special Steel Enterprise Association of China and China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute introduced a special kind of steel that the country developed at a press conference at the China National Convention Center in Beijing yesterday.
Sorbite High-Strength Stainless Constructional Steel S600E provides the strength and toughness of structural steel as well as the high corrosion resistance of stainless steel, and it boasts good anti-seismic performance, online media outlet Zhongguo Junwang reported.
As a military-civil convergence enterprise, Zhengzhou Yongtong Special Steel Co. successfully made S600E and resolved soldering technology issues to meet the requirements of large-scale production and engineering applications, said the Chinese Academy of Engineering's Li Helin.
Under the yield strength of 600 megapascals, S600E provides ductility greater than 20 percent and its anti-salt spray corrosion outperforms that of common carbon steel. Its powerful seismic energy absorption capability is more than twice as good as that of common high-strength anti-seismic steel, an expert said.
The new type of steel features high strength, good corrosion resistance and excellent soldering performance and heat resistance at a low cost, said the Chinese Academy of Engineering's Yin Ruiyu. Cross-sea bridges, photovoltaic, wind power, new energy construction, oceanographic and shipbuilding projects can use it as can other engineering construction fields that require high strength and solderability, Yin said.
