(Yicai Global) March 18 -- BSH Home Appliances Holding (China) intends to establish a joint lab with Huawei Technologies to perform latest research and development of the fifth-generation wireless communications network, its President and Chairman Roland Gerke said recently.
Gerke told Yicai Global this in an interview at the Appliance & Electronics World Expo 2019 which runs in Shanghai from March 14 to tomorrow.
The BSH-Huawei joint lab will mainly focus on research and development of home connect and smart home appliances, of which kitchen appliances constitute the major line, said Gerke, who is head of business for China of Munich, Germany-based Bosch-Siemens Hausgeräte.
BSH can do a lot with Shenzhen-based Huawei, he said, such as sharing and analyzing Big Data and providing users with more animated videos, adding that many application scenarios that were previously unthinkable can now be realized with faster data transmission.
Huawei held a professional training session in BSH just a week ago, introducing basic 5G knowledge and possible directions for their cooperation to its executives and employees and the pair's discussions have already begun, Gerke said.
He met and talked with Yu Chengdong, chief executive of Huawei Consumer Business Group, at BSH's booth at the AWE, he said.
The firm has already had contacts with Huawei on many levels. First, BSH's home connect system is hooked up to Huawei's Hi-Link ecosystem and can encompass more people, Gerke noted.
Second, BSH's home appliances will feature on Huawei's selected platform. The company decided to come aboard with Huawei now, to let more of its products be included and to cooperate with the Chinese network colossus on product promotion.
