(Yicai Global) Dec. 28 -- China's high-speed rail network has more than 22,000 kilometers of track in use, coving a greater distance than the systems in the rest of the world combined, Passenger Transport Department of China Railway Corp. Deputy Director Huang Xin.
China has 124,000 kilometers of railways in all, Huang said at a General Office of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress press conference in Beijing yesterday.
China has the most modernized rail network and most advanced high-speed railways, he said. The country is also home to Fuxing, a train with the world's fastest commercial operating speed -- 350 kilometers per hour.
The country has innovated engineering construction, train control, traction power supply, operation and management, safety and equipment manufacturing, said Huang.
After developing for more than a decade, Chinese high-speed railways have enabled passengers to take seven billion trips, Huang said.
