(Yicai Global) Sept. 21 -- China has one of the lowest homicide rates in the world and boasts a stable society, state-owned people.com.cn quoted the country's top domestic security official as saying yesterday.
"China's rate of homicide per 100,000 people was 0.62 last year, one of the lowest in the world," said Meng Jianzhu, the country's domestic security chief and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
Last year, the number of cases of serious crimes of violence fell 43 percent compared with 2012, that of deadly traffic accidents dropped 56 percent, and people's security satisfaction rose from 87.55 percent in 2012 to 91.99 percent, Meng said.
Being able to maintain the situation is not easy for a vast developing country with a population of 1.3 billion people, Meng noted.
Meng is the secretary of Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the CPC. He also heads the Central Public Security Comprehensive Management Commission.
