(Yicai Global) Jan. 21 -- China has released 177,000 tons of pork from its national reserves, as well as 120,000 tons from regional ones, since mid-December to offer a total of 297,000 tons to ensure sufficient supply ahead of Chinese New Year.
Last year, the government pushed over 140,000 tons of pork onto the market from national reserves, according to the commerce ministry. It also brought forth 7,300 tons of beef and mutton to help control the consumer price index growth at 2.9 percent, within the target range, said Qian Keming, vice minister of commerce.
