China's Great Wall Motor to Show ORA Brand's First EV in Chengdu This Month China's Great Wall Motor to Show ORA Brand's First EV in Chengdu This Month

(Yicai Global) Aug. 22 -- Chinese private carmaker Great Wall Motor will bring its highly invested new brand Ora's first model iQ, an electric sedan, to the Chengdu Auto Show later this month.

Ora will roll out four products, all priced below CNY100,000 (USD14,600), in the next three years, and three of them are already on the drawing board, the Baoding, Hebei province-based firm said at a launch event on Aug. 20.

Ora vehicles will be developed on a new electric car architecture platform, dubbed ME, which uses high-strength steel materials to provide more safety in the case of accidents.

"The risk of developing a new platform to make new energy vehicles is relatively significant due to the limited sales of them," Zeng Zhiling, general manager of LMC Automotive Consulting said, adding that GWM needs to solve the problem of cost sharing in the future.

Some 90 percent of them [NEVs] are converted from the conventional gasoline cars platform, which is called "gasoline to electricity," in order to gain state subsidies, Ning Shuyong, vice president of GWM and head of ORA brand told Yicai Global.
