(Yicai Global) Dec. 13 -- A unit of hydropower construction giant China Gezhouba Group will contract to build a hydropower project with a capacity of 480 megawatts in Kazakhstan.

Wuhan, Hubei province-based China Gezhouba Group's wholly-owned unit China Gezhouba Group International Engineering recently signed a contract with Kazakhstan Arai-Oil for the project, whose construction is projected at 60 months, the parent announced to Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing yesterday.

The project will build five cascade hydropower plants along the Tenek River in southeastern Kazakhstan, including dams, diversion tunnels, powerhouses, generating units, auxiliary facilities and 220 kilovolt transmission and transformation lines for these plants, per the announcement.
