China's Geely Looks to Bring Flying Cars to Hainan China's Geely Looks to Bring Flying Cars to Hainan

(Yicai Global) Nov. 15 -- Chinese auto giant Geely Holding Group is in talks with local authorities in Hainan to introduce flying cars for tourists in the country's southerly island province.

"We are actively negotiating on the flying auto project with Hainan province," state-backed newspaper Hainan Daily reported Yang Xueliang, senior public relations director at Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, as saying. "Powered by oil and electricity and with a range of 600 miles, the flying cars may bring Hainan more convenient and personalized travel experience."

The Zhejiang-based enterprise signed a deal with Haiken Group five months ago for the promotion of ride-hailing projects such as EVcoming and Caocao Zhuanche, along with methanol fuel and methanol cars.

The first 1,000 Haiken EVcoming cars arrived in Hainan at the end of August and were put into operation. Yang said that EVcoming may effectively reduce user costs as well as social resources through methods such as short and long-term rental, time-sharing rental and ride-hailing.

Geely also promotes methanol-powered vehicles in Hainan with the construction of provincial-wide distribution and transportation system for methanol fuel and refueling service stations.

The company also confirmed its latest move in the educational field.

"Based on the local economic and industrial development condition, the Geely-funded University of Sanya has established majors such as tourism economy, exhibition economy, hotel services and yacht management," Yang said, adding that the company has invested more than CNY3 billion (USD400 million) in the institution home to 20,000 students and more than 1,500 teachers.
