Ohio Train Derailment Doesn’t Impact Plants of Fuyao Glass, Yunnan Energy and Ye Chiu in US State Ohio Train Derailment Doesn’t Impact Plants of Fuyao Glass, Yunnan Energy and Ye Chiu in US State

(Yicai Global) Feb. 15 -- Fuyao Glass Industry Group, Yunnan Energy New Materials, and Ye Chiu Group, three Chinese companies with plants in Ohio, said their businesses were not impacted by the train that derailed, caught fire, and spilled toxic chemicals in the midwestern US state.

Fuyao Glass’ large auto glass plant in Dayton, Ohio, is running normally, the board secretary’s office of the Fuqing-based company said yesterday, according to China News Service. The chemical leak has had no impact on the plant, it added.

A freight train carrying chemicals, including toxic and flammable gas vinyl chloride, ran off the track near the town of East Palestine in Ohio on Feb. 3. The 50 derailed coaches caught fire, causing widespread concern about the effect on human health and the environment.

Fuyao Glass’ plant is around 400 kilometers from East Palestine. The firm’s three factories in the United States generated a total of CNY218 million (USD31.9 million) in net profit and CNY1.2 billion (USD175.6 million) in operating revenue in the first half of last year.

The construction of Yunnan Energy’s USD900 million plant in Ohio is proceeding as scheduled and will not be affected by the rail accident, the Yuxi-based supplier of lithium battery membranes said in a filing with the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

The derailment does not affect Ye Chiu’s business, according to its board secretary’s office. The firm recycles scrapped products, cars, and industrial waste in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey. Its US business had CNY3.1 billion in operating revenue in 2021, accounting for 37 percent of the company’s total.
