(Yicai Global) Dec. 16 -- China's fast delivery market broke through the 60 billion package mark this morning, setting a new milestone.
The parcel belonged to a customer in northern Shanxi province who bought a product from South Korea that the courier picked up from Tianjin's bonded area, according to real-time data from the State Post Bureau's security and supervision information system.
The volume of packages has grown at an annual rate of 10 billion items since 2016, accounting for more than half of the world's total, said Feng Lihu, a spokesperson for the State Post Bureau. China has become the world's fastest-growing and most dynamic emerging parcel delivery market, he added.
The e-commerce market's rapid development has spurred the sector's swift growth in recent years. Volumes topped the global list for the fifth straight year in 2018, jumping 26.6 percent to 50.7 billion parcels from a year earlier, figures released by the SPB at the start of this year showed. That was three times the level of the US, which came in second.
