China’s Economy to Gradually Recover in 2023, Bridgewater China Head Says China’s Economy to Gradually Recover in 2023, Bridgewater China Head Says

(Yicai Global) March 20 -- China's economy will continue to slowly rebound this year, according to the president of Bridgewater China Investment Management.

A large part of the global economic growth comes from China, The Paper quoted Wang Yan, the head of the Chinese arm of hedge fund giant Bridgewater Associates, as saying during the 2023 Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum held last weekend.

China’s economy is developing much faster than two decades ago, and its rise is unstoppable, Wang said, adding that the country’s “key wealth is its private entrepreneurs.”

The country’s financial opening-up will not stop and will advance at China’s own pace, Wang said in a recent interview with Xinhua News Agency. As an international asset manager and institutional investor, Bridgewater expects to play an active role in the process, enabling it to have in-depth talks with regulators about the possibility of piloting projects and innovations in areas such as service targets, he added.

Bridgewater’s management is optimistic about China's economy. Investors should seek opportunities outside the United States and look especially at China, as the US Federal Reserve continues to hike interest to fight inflation, Karen Karniol-Tambour, the firm’s co-chief investment officer, said on March 8.
