(Yicai Global) Aug. 17 -- Multiple supervisory agencies, including police and the network information supervisory department, recently conduct a special rectification campaign against online pornographic content.

Regulators fined Toutiao.com, 163.com and PhoenixNet and ordered them to suspend their channels for rectification for one week because they disseminated low-level online content with vulgar and pornographic content.

Toutiao.com is owned by Beijing Byte Dance Telecommunications Co. The Company provides such content as news using algorithms that feed new customized content based on user habits. It just finished new round financing at the start of this month of less than USD2 billion. The estimated value of Toutiao.com exceeds USD22 billion. Investors include the US private placement institution, General Atlantic LLC.

163.com belongs to internet enterprise NetEase Inc. [NASDAQ:NTES], while PhoenixNet is a news website subsidiary of Phoenix TV's media group.

Official information does not disclose the specific amount of the fine and the channels of these suspended websites. Chinese regulators are also reportedly investigating online trading platforms selling second-hand goods and study apps for pornographic content or producing, selling or disseminating online such content involving juveniles.
