(Yicai Global) Sept. 13 -- China's national comprehensive intelligent transportation test base officially unveiled its nameplate in Wuxi, Jiangsu province,Cnstock.com reported today. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security and the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government initiated the project for the facility.

The trio signed an agreement to build a canter focused on developing the Internet of Vehicles (IOV) and promoting the construction of intelligent transportation last month.

They hoped to advance the industry and integrated development to quash problems about road tests for intelligent vehicles.

The nameplate unveiling ceremony marks the official start of the test base construction. Located in Wuxi's Binhu district, the facility will cover a planned area of 178 mu (0.046 square miles). It will expand to sit on 208 mu (0.053 square miles) within two years. It has 3.53 kilometers (2.19 miles) of closed roads for testing. After workers finish building the base, users will test and evaluate function compliance, performance reliability and stability, and the center will provide third-party authoritative testing and certification for automated driving technology.

The base will work with the Wuxi municipal government to build an intelligent vehicle town and an on-base closed testing environment and a semi-open one outside the base. They plan to build a test facility and management platform covering various types of roads, obstacles, and meteorological conditions.
