(Yicai Global) April 28 -- Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. has kicked off a project to develop a long-haul wide-body passenger plane with 280 seats and a range of 12,000 kilometers, China News Service quoted He Dongfeng, vice chairman and general manager of COMAC, as saying.
China's big home-built airliner, the C919, will soon be ready for its first takeoff and will complete its maiden flight at an appropriate time, He added. He was speaking at the China-Europe Civil Aviation Safety Annual Conference in Shanghai yesterday.
When asked about the timing of the C919's debut flight, he said it depends on various conditions including aircraft, crew and weather, adding that a clear sky will be good for a maiden flight.
The C919 has completed all the ground and taxi tests, and COMAC has so far received 570 orders for the C919, he said.
The C919 is waiting for airworthiness approvals from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, CAAC deputy head Li Jian said in Shanghai on April 26. The C919 will be part of the bilateral airworthiness negotiations between China and Europe, Li said.
