(Yicai Global) Nov. 1 -- Contemporary Amperex Technology will join hands with Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast on the Chinese battery giant’s skateboard chassis technology.
In addition to the collaboration on cell-to-pack batteries, the pair will team up to promote CATL integrated intelligent chassis products to help VinFast quickly expand to the global market, the Ningde-based company announced yesterday.
CIIC skateboard chassis integrates battery packs, electric motors, and other key components at the bottom of the vehicle to reduce the price of the vehicle, save energy, expand cabin space, and make the car a combination of two independent parts, according to CATL. One chassis can match multiple vehicle models.
The cooperation will help CATL improve its global business layout, develop into emerging markets, and promote the application of new technologies, the battery maker added.
Founded in 2017, VinFast makes new energy products, including electric scooters, EVs, and charging station systems. It delivered the first batch of electric cars to local users in December last year. The firm plans to invest USD4 billion to build an EV plant in North Carolina, VinFast announced in March. The first phase, with an annual capacity of 150,000 cars, is expected to be completed by July 2024.
