(Yicai Global) April 8 -- Bilibili has entered a strategic partnership with US music conglomerate Sony Music Entertainment, allowing users of the Chinese video-streaming platform to watch music videos from Sony Music's library, online tech media 36Kr reported.
Bilibili's themed page on its site reviews a series of classic albums that Sony Music has launched over the years, and also makes public the list of artists, whose music videos will be available on the platform, the report said, citing a statement from the Shanghai-based company released today.
In addition to Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan, Oasis and other well-known Western singers and bands, the list also includes A-Lin, Huang Qishan, Karen Mok and other Chinese vocalists and musicians in the fields of hip-hop and electric music.
This is not the first time Bilibili has laid out its music content. Late last year, the platform launched a music star project to lure participants. The conditions of this recruitment were quite loose, with the platform hiring both music lovers and certified musicians on music platforms for the event.
This time, Bilibili has chosen to collaborate with well-known record label to secure more copyrights, which means the video-streamer will inevitably compete with Tencent's QQ Music, NetEase Cloud Music and other music streaming services.
Shares of Bilibili [NASDAQ: BILI] rose 3.6 percent to close at USD26.50 yesterday.
