(Yicai Global) March 22 -- The ARJ21-700, China's first independently developed passenger jet, recently conducted a regional demo flight in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shanghai Observer reported.
The jetliner completed a round-trip flight from Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia, to Ulanhot. The regional demo flights will last until the end of this month, the report said. The main purpose is to test the suitability of the aircraft in China's central and western regions with a view to accelerate its commercial use.
Inner Mongolia is the main base for ARJ21-700's test flights in high altitude cold environment. The aircraft had made several test flights in Inner Mongolia from 2010 to 2014. At present, the jetliner can achieve full-capacity take-offs and landings at all domestic high-altitude airports in China. It can also operate normally at ultra-low temperatures.
The ARJ21-700, designed and manufactured by state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd., was the first regional jetliner designed for use in China's central and western regions. The ARJ21-700 adopts a full economy-class design and provides 90 seats. Chengdu Airlines, its first buyer, operated four ARJ21-700 jetliners on several routes, including between Chengdu and Shanghai, carrying more than 50,000 passengers.
