(Yicai Global) April 9 -- Chinese authorities plan to begin an eight-month nationwide crackdown on uncouth content in order to clear up the country's cyberspace.
The campaign aims to put a stop to pornography, violence and gory content in digital literature, live broadcasts, short films and online games, the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications announced today.
It will also probe content on social media platforms -- including Twitter-like Weibo and superapp WeChat -- and investigate lewd pop-up ads and otherwise vulgar marketing on websites and in online games, the office added.
Companies will have 30-days to self-rectify before the office starts calling in executives to re-evaluate their findings, dishing out fines or shutting down firms.
