China Aims to Boost Domestic Milk Quality With New Measures China Aims to Boost Domestic Milk Quality With New Measures

(Yicai Global) May 24 - The Chinese government has proposed multiple measures to boost the quality and safety of milk products as part of efforts to boost the competitiveness and reputation of the domestic infant formula sector within three years.

Proposals made before China's cabinet, the State Council, include the establishment of breeding stations for quality dairy cattle, Xinhua News Agency reported, adding that the program could be expanded to develop large-scale sources of high-quality milk.

Authorities will also step up efforts to intensify supervision safety and quality supervision mechanisms while revising national standards for raw and sterilized milk, as well as setting up a tracing system focused on quality. The government will also boost financial and insurance-related support to domestic industry players, while also boosting the provision of land for herd-rearing.

China's agriculture ministry also aims to enhance supervision of the three key supply links in the sector, namely, dairy farms, raw milk purchasing stations and carrier vehicles, so as to build a quality and safety supervision system for the overall industry chain.

There are also plans to accelerate the construction of a smart Internet of Things cloud platform to quickly guide price negotiations in provinces with major dairy industries, while also carrying out a third-party testing pilot scheme for the quality of raw milk.
