China's Agriculture Ministry Approves 16 New GMO Imports

(Yicai Global) June 15 -- China's Ministry of Agriculture yesterday published a list of 16 products it has granted genetically modified organism safety certificates to, licensing a range of imports from international companies.

Approval was given for five kinds of genetically modified soybeans, four kinds of GMO corn, three kinds of rapeseed, three kinds of cotton and one kind of sugar beet. The use of such imports is limited to being 'materials for processing.'

Monsanto Co. Inc. [NYSE:MON], Bayer AG [FWB:BAYN], Syngenta AG [NYSE:SYT], US-based Dow AgroSciences LLC and DuPont Pioneer (formerly Pioneer Hi-Bred) some of the companies that managed to land a certificate for GM imports.

The certificates will last for three years beginning from June 12, 2017.
