(Yicai) Feb. 14 -- Changhong Electric has connected its smart television sets to artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek’s highly popular AI assistant, the Chinese TV manufacturer said yesterday. And Hisense Group and Skyworth TV have either already announced or are about to announce their integration with the chatbot to offer viewers a better experience and to give their wares a competitive edge.

Although the TV makers have yet to respond to Yicai about how DeepSeek will improve their products’ features, when prompted the DeepSeek chatbot told Yicai that the large language model can “significantly improve the intelligence level of TVs, improve user experience and provide manufacturers with more business opportunities.”

A senior executive of another TV manufacturer told Yicai that it is preparing to fuse DeepSeek with the firm’s self-developed AI tool, which will make the reasoning ability of the smart system even more powerful than before, so that TVs can better understand the wishes of people watching TV.

Integrating DeepSeek in TVs will provide smart features in a simpler way and at a lower cost, Dong Min, secretary-general of the China Video Industry Association, told Yicai. Viewers will be able to enjoy better picture quality, sound quality and interactive content, and it will also help manufacturers improve operational efficiency.

"Given the current market buzz, all leading technology companies, consumer electronics firms and home appliance makers are likely to connect their products to DeepSeek in the near future," Dong said. It might be that by the end of the year, the consumer electronics industry has developed new business models and products powered by DeepSeek, he added.

Connecting to DeepSeek will optimize the interactive experience between consumers and large-screen TVs, and help make the TVs sets more competitive, said Wang Xianming, director of TV industrial chain research at Runtu. However, the actual effect of embedding DeepSeek on TVs and how this enhances their appeal and boosts sales still needs to be observed, he added.
