CES 2025 Preview: Rising Chinese Presence, AI Takes Center Stage CES 2025 Preview: Rising Chinese Presence, AI Takes Center Stage

(Yicai) Jan. 2 -- With the Consumer Electronics Show 2025 less than a week away, Chinese companies, led by artificial intelligence technologies, are expected to expand their presence at the world's largest consumer electronics conference.

This year's CES theme is "Dive In," focusing on exploring the underlying technologies and practical applications of AI. The event in Las Vegas will run from Jan. 7 to Jan. 11. Industry experts anticipate that edge AI application innovations will be the highlight of this year's show.

The event has generated significant interest as Jensen Huang, chief executive of Nvidia, will deliver the opening keynote, where he is expected to announce the RTX 50 series and discuss the latest developments in AI and humanoid robots. Competitors Advanced Micro Devices, Intel, and Qualcomm will also launch new products at the event.

Mei Qiang, head of Wuhan-based Huazhong University of Science and Technology's Alumni Network, is leading a delegation of AI entrepreneurs to CES. Mei noted that participating Chinese companies are focusing not only on AI technologies but also on robotics and wearable devices.

He Jiabin, chief executive of AI robot maker Mengfriend Intelligence, is preparing for his first CES appearance. He will depart on Jan. 4 to launch the company's next-generation AI pet robot. The company primarily targets global markets, particularly the US, Japan, and South Korea, attracted by their high consumer purchasing power and openness to innovation. Through its participation in CES, the firm aims to gain greater exposure in the US market and secure additional distribution channels.

Hu Yanping, chief expert at Tsinghua University's FutureLabs, told Yicai that at CES, he will focus on examining the advancement of autonomous vehicles powered by large language models, the industrial chain of embodied AI robots, upstream system-on-a-chip and graphics processing unit technologies, as well as flying cars.

Charles Zhang, chairman of internet company Sohu, told Yicai that he will soon fly to the US to attend CES. He expressed interest in cutting-edge electronics technologies, particularly from partners like Haier Group and TCL Technology Group.

Chinese companies' AI applications present a win-win opportunity for US-China cooperation. Chris Pereira, founder of iMpact, a business consulting group focusing on Chinese firms, predicts that the upcoming CES will showcase an increasing number of energy storage products, integrated into applications such as smart backpacks with power banks and energy-storing shoes. He also noted that smart health is rapidly growing as an overseas segment.
