(Yicai Global) Sept. 11 -- Wuhan, the provincial capital of central China's Hubei, has put forward proposals to build a world-class intelligent connected vehicle and smart transportation innovation demonstration area of up to 10 square kilometers in area, per representatives from the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WETDZ).

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Hubei provincial government signed a framework agreement in November 2016 to build the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle Demonstration Zone for smart vehicles and intelligent transportation applications based on broadband mobile internet.

The smart town, located in the WETDZ, will feature smart sensors linking cars to cities, while connected vehicles will collect real-time road conditions, traffic conditions and even temperature, humidity and air pollution data.

The area will also test intelligent bus terminals that can estimate real time passenger flows and smart buses that are able to make reasonable speed planning to stop at key sites with intensive passenger flow.

First phase construction of the closed test site has started and a preliminary draft for the site's design is now complete.
