(Yicai) Aug. 17 -- Contemporary Amperex Technology’s latest superfast battery for electric cars, released by the Chinese battery giant yesterday, is made from lithium iron phosphate materials and can add a range of 400 kilometers in just 10 minutes of charging.
The Shenxing superfast battery, which has a range of up to 700 kilometers when fully charged, will be mass produced by the end of this year and hit the market in the first quarter next year, said Gao Huan, chief technology officer of CATL’s passenger car division.
Shenxing is positioned for the mass market and will be affordable, Gao said. CATL’s innovations in science and technology not only push back the frontiers of science, but also aim to be cost effective. The Ningde, southeastern Fujian-based company has yet to disclose the price of the Shenxing battery.
CATL has many other types of batteries in the works, such as its third-generation Qirin battery, sodium-ion batteries and M3P batteries as well as battery-swap technologies.
Speed is of the essence in the new energy vehicle sector. Other battery makers, such as CALB, SVOLT Energy, EVE Energy and Farasis Technology, have all rolled out fast-charging batteries. And vehicle manufacturers, including SAIC, BYD, Geely Automobile and Great Wall Motor, are preparing to integrate 800V fast-charging technology.
