(Yicai Global) Oct. 18 -- Contemporary Amperex Technology, a Chinese battery giant, will exclusively supply cells for Primergy Solar's undertaking which is expected to become one of the largest solar power and storage projects in the United States.
CATL will provide the US renewables company with a storage system for the latter's Gemini project, located outside of Las Vegas in Nevada, the Ningde-based firm said in a statement on its WeChat account today.
The USD1.2 billion Gemini project deploys a 690 megawatt alternating current or 966 MW direct current solar array and a 1,416 megawatt-hour storage capability.
CATL is a technological leader in the battery sector, said Ty Daul, chief executive of California-headquartered Primergy. Primergy is working with CATL to construct an advanced storage system that can store excessive daytime energy to provide electricity for the State of Nevada when the night falls.
Primergy has capabilities in the development, building, and management of long-term assets and CATL has innovative battery technologies so the pair’s collaboration on the Gemini project will establish a benchmark for large-scale electrochemical energy storage applications while facilitating the achievement of the globe’s goal of carbon neutrality, said Tan Libin, vice president of CATL.
