(Yicai Global) Oct. 23 -- Contemporary Amperex Technology, the world's largest seller of batteries for electric vehicles, has placed fourth on US business magazine Fortune's latest Future 50 list, the highest ranking for a Chinese firm.

Sixteen Chinese firms were included on the list, which ranks global companies according to their market potential and long-term growth prospects.

Despite the lineup being dominated by hi-tech and communications firms, several traditional Chinese industries made the cut, including the world's largest soy sauce manufacturer Foshan Haitian Flavoring & Food and high-end baijiu liquor distillers Wuliangye Yibin and Kweichow Moutai.

Other Chinese firms included in the top 10 were handset maker Xiaomi in seventh place and online travel agency Ctrip in eighth place. Internet giants Alibaba Group Holding, Tencent Holdings and NetEase came 11th, 12th and 19th respectively.

The top three firms were all from the US. Workday, a financial and human capital management software vendor, ranked first, followed by mobile payment developer Square and cloud computing company ServiceNow. In all, there were 28 American firms on the list, making it the best-performing country.

Ningde, Fujian province-based CATL had net profit of USD512 million last year, the report said. Its clients include Volkswagen, BMW, Honda Motor and several major Chinese automakers. In July, the company signed a partnership deal with Toyota Motor to develop batteries for electric cars.
