(Yicai) Nov. 26 -- China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology has launched new battery products for heavy-duty trucks under its Tectrans commercial vehicle battery brand.
The new lineup, which was unveiled in Shanghai yesterday, includes super-fast charging, long-range, and long-life versions, as well as a durable edition for construction machinery.
The supercharging version can replenish 70 percent of its energy in just 15 minutes. With a lifecycle of 1.2 million kilometers, it offers a single-charge range of up to 500 km. The long-range version boasts an energy density of 220 watt-hours per kilogram, with a range of 800 km.
The long-life version can last up to 15 years and 3 million kilometers and supports battery swapping. It has a range of 500 km. The durable edition, designed for mining trucks, retains high safety standards even after 500,000 km under extreme conditions.
Heavy-duty trucks remain a category with a relatively low adoption rate for new energy technologies, presenting significant growth potential. They account for a substantial share of global carbon emissions in the transport sector, so electrification of this segment is crucial.
Their adoption rate in China is expected to exceed 10 percent by next year and get close to 50 percent by 2030, according to Ouyang Minggao, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Ningde-based CATL has developed multiple battery brands tailored to different uses, including Shenxing and Qilin for passenger cars, Tianheng for energy storage solutions, and Tectrans for trucks. Launched this July, the latter already has two products for light-weight commercial vehicles.
