(Yicai Global) Feb. 11 -- China's Contemporary Amperex Technology, the world's largest lithium battery maker and better known as CATL, has teamed up with Honda Motor to develop electric vehicles.

CATL and the Japanese carmaker will sell the cars in China and other countries around the world, the Fujian province-based cell manufacturer said on WeChat on Feb. 5. The battery supplier will also provide Honda with around 56 gigawatt-hours of lithium-ion batteries by 2027, it added.

CATL, which shot to the top of global battery-selling rankings in 2017 after its foundation in 2011, will also build a production base in Japan's Tochigi prefecture in the first half of this year to assist with research and development, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.
