(Yicai Global) Feb. 12 -- Chinese Academy of Sciences has established Lanshi Blockchain Laboratory in Beijing, as part of efforts to promote the use of the technology in urban areas with a focus on fields such as government services, education, healthcare, finance, jewelry and logistics.

The laboratory has already signed cooperation agreements with several companies such as Shenzhen-based Ideal Jewellery Co., CAS said at an inauguration ceremony on Feb. 10, held in conjunction with partners the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and Beihang University.

The facility has also set up complementary research stations in Silicon Valley, Boston, New York, Dubai, London, Singapore, Beijing and Shanghai, and will focus on the development of smart cities that apply blockchain technology around the world.

Lanshi Blockchain Lab held a forum on smart security after the ceremony with some 100 experts and entrepreneurs from the internet, information security and the Internet of Things sectors in attendance.
