(Yicai Global) Oct. 17 -- Cainiao Network Technology Co., a smart logistics provider under e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA], has recently introduced a warehouse in Huiyang in Guangdong province with over 100 robots, TechWeb reported.
The facility can make more than a million shipments per day, and the firm designed it to provide efficient logistics services for online shoppers in the Southern mainland and Hong Kong.
The warehouse is one of the company's flagship delivery service centers for the high-volume season created by China's largest online shopping festival on Nov. 11, known as Singles' Day or Double 11, Cainiao Network's technical expert said.
Bots capable of deep learning can turn a vacant warehouse with basic electrical facilities into a smart one on their own, the expert said.
Traditionally, sorters would pick up goods one by one in warehouses. Now, automated guided vehicles can bring goods to the sorters. "In the past, a sorter could only pick up 1,000 to 2,000 items a day by walking 60,000 or 70,000 steps, but with the aid of robots, their working efficiency has tripled with only 2,000 or 3,000 steps a day," the expert said.
Cainiao Network plans to unveil various types of robot warehouses in Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangdong, Zhejiang and Hubei before the retail rush.
