ByteDance Hires Experts in International Relations ByteDance Hires Experts in International Relations

(Yicai) Aug. 13 -- ByteDance, the Chinese owner of TikTok, is recruiting international relations experts to strengthen its understanding of geopolitics and global relations.

The experts will lead research in international politics and economics, focusing on geopolitics and international relations, conducting in-depth analysis, and developing research reports with perspectives, according to ByteDance's job listing on recruitment platform Liepin. They will also maintain and expand communication with external experts and think tanks, manage a research team, and work closely with other departments to support the security and development of the business.

The monthly salary for the position is CNY60,000 to CNY100,000 (USD8,365 to USD13,940), with 15 payments a year. The workplace is in Beijing's Haidian district.

Established in 2012, ByteDance's business covers 150 countries and regions, the recruitment page showed. Its products include Toutiao, TikTok's sister app in China Douyin, and Xigua Video, with more than 1.9 billion monthly active users worldwide.

"Many Chinese companies are going global," noted Kourosh Asghari, vice president of consumer markets Asia of talent recruitment solution provider Cornerstone Global Partners. "Bytedance has done a good job and has a good mixture of Chinese and foreign talent to support the challenges of being in new countries and cultures."

Companies tend to be more sensitive to geopolitical issues when making decisions, particularly for Bytedance, considering TikTok issues overseas, Asghari said. "Chinese companies should definitely hire more international people when they go into international markets to promote the diversity of people and backgrounds, which is important for success in foreign markets."
