(Yicai Global) March 15 -- The latest resurgence of Covid-19 in Shenzhen has had only a modest impact on BYD’s production in the southern Chinese city, the new energy vehicle maker told Yicai Global today.
BYD is headquartered in Shenzhen, which is also its main production base. It produces two flagship models, the Han and the Tang, at its three plants in the city, with a monthly output of 25,000 to 30,000 vehicles.
A number of cities across China are contending with a new wave of Codid-19, affecting some production and business operations. Taiwan-based contract electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn has announced the suspension of iPhone production at plants in Shenzhen, while FAW Group, one of China’s biggest carmakers, has halted operations at its factory in Changchun, Jilin province.
Shenzhen has seen a rapid increase in Covid-19 case rates recently, and the local government announced on March 13 that all companies, apart from those providing vital public services, must suspend production and operational activities and arrange work from home from March 14 to 20.
The city reported another 60 locally transmitted Covid-19 cases yesterday, of which 39 were symptomatic and 21 asymptomatic, according to the latest data from the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission. The city has confirmed 551 local infection cases this year.
