(Yicai) Oct. 11 -- BYD said the Chinese electric vehicle and battery maker has received an order for 2,000 electric buses from the municipal government of Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan.
BYD and Tashkent will promote the electrification of the city's public transport vehicles, the company said late yesterday. The supply deal includes the 12-meter BYD eBus K9UD, with the first 200 to go into operation next year, it added, without disclosing any financial details.
BYD will provide the city government with high-level tailor-made products and comprehensive after-sales service based on Tashkent's climate and road conditions, the firm said.
Shenzhen-based BYD has been a global leader in electric buses since the firm unveiled its first commercial model in 2011. It had delivered in excess of 78,000 to more than 400 cities in over 70 countries and regions as of the end of last month, according to the company.
BYD manufactured 4,870 electric buses last year, down 15.6 percent from a year earlier, according to its 2022 earnings report. Sales jumped 18.1 percent to 4,742.
