(Yicai) Oct. 16 -- The first factory in China of US medical device giant Boston Scientific has reportedly kicked off operation in the Lingang New Area of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.
The plant is equipped with industry-leading laboratories, advanced production workshops and warehouses, and clean rooms meeting both Chinese and international medical standards, The Paper reported yesterday. It will produce medical consumables and equipment.
Designed to integrate Boston Scientific's new technologies and experience, the facility is a top-quality technologically advanced smart factory able to adapt to the dynamic demand of the Chinese market.
The products rolling off this plant will likely undergo fast registration and hit the market without going through the time-consuming and costly import and localization processes. This way, they will reach hospitals much quicker, offering China-made alternatives to domestic professionals and patients and reducing treatments' economic burden.
The Lingang facility is the demonstration of Boston Scientific's long-term commitment to put down roots in China and integrate into the local healthcare industry, said Art Butcher, the Boston-based company's executive vice president and group president, MedSurg and Asia Pacific.
Boston Scientific will produce more high-quality innovative medical products in China to meet the urgent needs of local patients and healthcare providers and continue to increase its investment in the country, actively collaborating with local suppliers to leverage new quality productive forces, Butcher noted.
Boston Scientific established its Chinese headquarters in Shanghai in 1997. It has branch offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
