BMW to Recall Over 360,000 Cars in China Due to Airbag Hazard BMW to Recall Over 360,000 Cars in China Due to Airbag Hazard

(Yicai  Global) April 17 -- BMW has issued a recall notice for 360,000 cars in  China including the popular X and M series for August due to airbag  hazards.

BMW Automotive Trading will  recall 87,100 imported cars produced between April 5, 2000 and Feb. 21,  2018, according to information on the State Administration of Market  Regulation's website. BMW Brilliance will recall 272,900 domestically  made autos produced between Jan. 2, 2014 and Oct. 16, 2017.

The German auto giant found that airbags on the models were equipped with  Takada's ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant and the  generator could be damaged if the airbag is deployed, causing debris to  fly out and possibly injure passengers.

China is one of BMW's fastest growing markets. Sales globally were 2.8  percent higher annually in March at 263,319 cars, while those in China  were expanded 10 percentage points higher than last year amid a sluggish  overall environment.

The carmaker is also showcasing around ten new models at the ongoing Shanghai Auto Show.
