(Yicai Global) April 17 -- BMW has issued a recall notice for 360,000 cars in China including the popular X and M series for August due to airbag hazards.
BMW Automotive Trading will recall 87,100 imported cars produced between April 5, 2000 and Feb. 21, 2018, according to information on the State Administration of Market Regulation's website. BMW Brilliance will recall 272,900 domestically made autos produced between Jan. 2, 2014 and Oct. 16, 2017.
The German auto giant found that airbags on the models were equipped with Takada's ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant and the generator could be damaged if the airbag is deployed, causing debris to fly out and possibly injure passengers.
China is one of BMW's fastest growing markets. Sales globally were 2.8 percent higher annually in March at 263,319 cars, while those in China were expanded 10 percentage points higher than last year amid a sluggish overall environment.
The carmaker is also showcasing around ten new models at the ongoing Shanghai Auto Show.
