(Yicai Global) March 27 -- Beijing Electric Vehicle Co., which is set to become China's first listed new-energy vehicle maker, has begun operations at a new production base in Changzhou, Jiangsu province.

The plant, which is in its first phase, is capable of producing 50,000 NEVs a year at the moment, Beijing News quoted company spokesperson Lian Qingfeng as saying. The total cost of the factory is almost CNY10 billion (USD1.6 billion) and it will be able to produce 300,000 units annually once complete.

The factory also rolled the company's 200,000th all-electric vehicle off the ramps, and the firm announced its new pure-electric sports-utility vehicle, the EX360.

BJEV is a unit under Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. and announced its plans for a backdoor listing via affiliated firm Chengdu Qianfeng Electronics Co. in January. Earlier this month, German auto giant Daimler AG, famous for the Mercedes-Benz marque, took an almost 4-percent stake in the electric carmaker, which sold 103,100 vehicles last year and hopes to sell 150,000 in 2018.
