(Yicai Global) Sept. 8 -- Beijing’s new airport, which is currently under construction, will strengthen the city’s connection with Xiongan New Area and create a modern, integrated passenger hub to aid the development of a regional transportation hub, Liu Xuesong, general manager of Beijing Capital International Airport Co., said at the Beijing Global Sister Airport President Forum on Sept. 7.
The existing Beijing Capital International Airport focuses on improving quality, increasingly supporting non-international functions of the transport hub and strengthening coverage of international routes, he said.
Once complete, the new airport will look to establish transit flights from the Beijing Capital International Airport and also help with construction of Xiongan New Area.
Construction of Beijing's new airport has progressed smoothly so far with the main structure and corridors already completed. Current investment has reached CNY30.8 billion (USD4.78 billion), making up 39 percent of the total, Liu added.
