(Yicai Global) Sept. 21 -- China's state-owned rail operator China Railway Corp. plans to increase the top operational speed of its high-speed Fuxing trains on the Beijing to Shanghai line to 350 kilometers per hour, making them the fastest commercial high-speed trains in the world, the company said in a press briefing on Sept. 20.
China Railway will release new working diagrams for the trains on Sept. 21 and confirmed that ticket prices will remain unchanged after the ramp-up in speed.
"Running at 350kph will increase energy consumption, but our trains can increase efficiency by reducing the traveling time and will profit more by attracting more passengers. Therefore, the train ticket price will remain the same," said He Huawu, chief engineer.
The fastest commercial railroad at present is Japan's Shinkansen, which can hit a top speed of 320 kilometers per hour.
The line between Beijing and Shanghai has been running for six years with an average annual passenger capacity of more than 100 million a year.
