(Yicai Global) Aug. 23 -- The Beijing Robot Industry Innovation and Development Roadmap revealed at the 2017 World Robot Conference, which began today and will end Aug. 27, outlines a two-stage scheme that will help the city build a presence in the industry.
Beijing plans to achieve robot business revenue of between USD1.8 billion (CNY12 billion) and CNY15 billion, develop 10 leading enterprises in the sector and 10 research and development innovation hubs, and implement 10 major industrial robot application projects by 2020 in the first phase.
The city aims to post industry revenue of about CNY60 billion, form a top-notch robot technology collaborative innovation system, boast world-class artificial intelligence and advanced operating systems and software, and have almost completed construction on a leading robot innovation and application base by 2025 in the second stage.
"Beijing will build a global robotics industry innovation hub for emerging technologies by 2025," Zhang Boxu, director of the Beijing Municipal Committee of Economic and Information Technology, said at a forum on robot development opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative held today ahead of the conference's official opening.
Beijing has more than 240 AI enterprises, Zhang said. The income of AI groups in Zhongguancun, a high-tech park in Beijing, was USD61.88 billion (CNY412.25 billion), incomplete statistics show.
"In 2016, China contributed one quarter of the world's industrial robot output and by 2025, Beijing will build a global robot industry innovation center," said Zhang.
