Baidu Video Platform Looks to Quiz Show to Boost Web Traffic Baidu Video Platform Looks to Quiz Show to Boost Web Traffic

(Yicai Global) Jan. 22 -- Chinese internet goliath Baidu Inc. will introduce an online quiz show in an effort to boost network traffic on its short video platform Haokan, mimicking strategies employed by other players in the industry.

Haokan, which debuted in November at the Baidu World Conference, will roll out three question-and-answer sessions, each consisting of 12 rounds with viewers required to answer correctly within 10 seconds, the company said in a press briefing. Wrong answers will result in elimination while those answering all questions correctly receiving a reward.

Haokan enjoys content support from Baidu-backed major video platform iQiyi Technology Co. including TV and movies, entertainment, games, and other fields. The platform has become a key product for Baidu in the development of its streaming business.

Chinese live streamers Inke, operated by Beijing Milaiwu Network Technology Co. and Huajiao, a unit of Beijing Mijing Hefeng Technology Co., have taken the lead in launching online quiz shows since the turn of the year. They offer high bonuses to attract large audiences, securing high volumes of traffic.

Fellow internet giants Netease Inc., Beijing Qihoo Technology Co., Ltd. and Alibaba Group Holdings' UC Browser all plan to introduce rival online quizzes in the future.
