(Yicai Global) Nov. 1 -- Chinese internet giant Baidu and Shanghai's local government will team up to construct a city with advanced internet services.
The pair agreed that they will develop and integrate artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, and cloud computing to make a smart city demonstration zone in northern Baoshan district in Shanghai, state-backed The Paper reported yesterday.
Baidu will contribute with its technologies involving the Internet of Things, driverless vehicles, as well as human-computer interaction, to smarten up homes, transportation, education, security, medical care, and city management, the Beijing-based tech firm said.
"Baoshan district covers an area of 300 square kilometers with huge space for smart city construction," said Wang Hong, secretary of the Baoshan District Party Committee in Shanghai. "Baidu is the leader in AI technology and its proposal for a smart city program is in line with our transformation needs."
Baidu has formed cooperation deals with more than 10 provinces and cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Changsha, Changchun, Hefei, Ningbo, Xiong'an, Qingdao and Chongqing.
