(Yicai Global) Feb. 17 -- Apollo Go, Baidu Apollo’s robotaxi mobile platform, has begun a trail service for commuters in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
Shenzhen is the seventh city in China to have Apollo Go following Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Changsha and Cangzhou, Baidu said in a press release. It plans to expand the service to 65 cities by 2025 and 100 by 2030.
From today, commuters in Shenzhen’s Nanshan district can hail one of Apollo Go’s robotaxis on its app between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. Coverage is set to expand to more than 300 stations across Shenzhen by the end of 2022 from about 50 in Nanshan, meeting the ever-growing daily travel needs of local residents.
As a pioneer in China’s autonomous driving field, Baidu Apollo offers industry-leading technology and advanced autonomous driving solutions. As of the third quarter of 2021, Apollo L4 had notched up more than 10 million test miles.
The manufacturing cost of Baidu’s latest robotaxi model Apollo Moon has been brought down to CNY480,000 (USD75,745) per vehicle, with the models currently being added to Apollo Go’s robotaxi service.
