(Yicai Global) June 01 -- China's Internet giant Baidu and infrastructure firm Shenzhen Expressway will cooperate in smart transportation to introduce roads and toll stations which can identify vehicles and monitor traffic conditions.

The Shenzhen-based pair will partner in three major areas including smart transportation, intelligent environmental protection, and information technology upgrade, Chinese news portal Sina reported. Baidu's contribution includes applying artificial intelligence, cloud computing, Internet of Things, big data analysis, and blockchain technology to create solutions such as vehicle identification, smart toll stations, intelligent patrolling and road operation monitoring.

Baidu joined hands with China Greatwall Technology Group in March to develop a service platform for smart cities. Before that, the internet firm agreed with Xiongan New Area in Hebei province last December to turn the economic zone into an intelligent city, featuring AI tech in transportation, education, healthcare, payments, and environmental protection.

Baidu hopes that the strategic cooperation between the two parties will become an innovative sample of development in smart transportation, Zhang Yaqin, the firm's president said regarding the latest partnership.
