(Yicai Global) July 13 -- Baidu has been ordered to pay out CNY214,000 (USD31,000) in compensation over a series of photo copyright infringements.

Visual marketing agency Dongfang IC successfully brought 19 cases of copyright violations against the search giant over the use of 76 photos from its library, the Shanghai-based firm said on its Weibo account.

A Beijing court ordered Baidu to provide compensation to Dongfang IC to the tune of CNY214,000 for economic losses and expenses in addition to CNY2,000 to CNY5,000 for each image.

The ruling found that Beijing-based Baidu's mobile app had violated rights regarding the dissemination of unauthorized content used by other websites without the consent of the copyright owners.

Founded in 2000, Dongfang IC mainly provides comprehensive photo agency services for photographers, media and advertising professionals.
