(Yicai Global) Oct. 19 -- Chinese internet giant Baidu, the government of Hainan province and a local tech park will establish a blockchain research center to promote the use of the tech firm's newly launched distributed ledger.

Baidu and Hainan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, as well as high-tech incubator Hainan Resort Software Community will build the lab in the Blockchain Test Zone of the Free Trade Zone in Hainan, state-backed the Paper reported. The joint blockchain base will explore uses for the cryptographic technology in sectors such as intellectual property rights, e-commerce, education and transportation.

Baidu launched its first decentralized ledger XuperChain and said it will establish a blockchain unit in the island province, the Beijing-based firm said at a press conference yesterday while releasing its report Baidu Blockchain White Paper 1.0. The lab will promote XuperChain as the basis for other innovative products to be made in the research center.

The parties will create a working group called the Hainan Free Trade Zone Hong Kong Blockchain Pilot Zone Standards Committee to ensure that the technical parameters of the project will be reached.
