(Yicai Global) May 21 -- The much-anticipated 2018 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, better known as Auto China 2018, or Beijing Motor Show 2018, has kicked off. Chinese and foreign carmakers showcase their latest creations at the show, which comes at a time when the automotive industry goes through one of its biggest transformations in history.

As the British luxury sports carmaker Aston Martin's CEO Andy Palmer said in a television interview, China spurs another horse-to-car moment in the history of transportation.

China's policy to cut pollution is driving a rapid move toward electric vehicles in the world's biggest market and causing an upheaval in the global auto industry, Palmer told Bloomberg, adding, "This whole show is revolving around what they call new energy vehicles, but Chinese policy is very much driving the move towards electric cars."

So, many Chinese NEV startups showcased their latest innovations at Beijing Motor Show 2018. More than 1,000 autos are displayed at the show. It debuted 105 cars. Many concept cars are also exhibited. However, all eyes are on new electric cars as many countries have already decided to gradually phase out petrol cars in the next few decades.

Auto China is one the world's most exciting car shows. This year's exhibition in the world's biggest auto market is definitely a joy to visit and a chance to witness history in the making.
